More than 65 years of good memories

Several generations in Sweden have grown up with Delicato’s cakes and pastries and Swedish people have many memories from cafes and pastries associated with our Punchrolls, Mazarins, Biskvis and Delicatoballs.

In 1948 Einar Belvén opened a small home bakery at Tomtebogatan in Stockholm. That is when the history of Delicato begins. Einar had an idea of producing a pastry assortment and sell fresh cakes and pastries directly to the rapidly growing food service market. In the beginning Einar delivered the products himself by bike.

After moving around from basement to basement a construction of an own bakery of 1000 sqm started in 1964. During the 70s there were a lot of structural changes among Delicato’s customers and Delicato started to process merchants in order to achieve national coverage. This enabled agreements with big national restaurant and hotel chains. The customer base grew quickly and came to include a large number of small customers too, such as coffee shops, outdoor cafes, canteens, schools and bakeries.

In 1980 the turnover was 68 MSEK, the number of employees was 100 and the number of products in the assortment was 50. What also happened at this point of time is that sale was established in the rest of the Nordic countries as well.

In 1983, Haga Chocolate was acquired which enriched the business and in the year of 1993 Delicato was appointed as a Royal Supplier. At this point of time Delicato also entered the retail trade market and started exporting in EU. Delicato’s products are nowadays distributed to the retail trade market by Fazer Bageri AB.

Today Delicato is the biggest manufacturer of cakes and pastries in the Nordic countries.
